Asymmetric Bondage PDF Print E-mail

ASYMMETRIC BONDAGE: Any bondage technique in which a person is bound in an asymmetric pose; for example, with one leg extended and one leg bent. Many forms of shibari include asymmetric bondage.

The aesthetics of the bound person's position are also important: in particular, Japanese bondage is distinguished by its use of asymmetric and often intentionally uncomfortable positions, often giving choice of two 'evils' (two in different ways uncomfortable positions to chose between by moving in the ropes), to heighten the psychological impact of the bondage. Western styles of bondage are usually more symmetrical and may sometimes only marginally restrict the bottom's ability to move.
